'' Atlantic City'' is a 1980 in film 1980 film which tells the story of a Canadian woman whose dream for a better life in the gambling business is interrupted by the return of the husband she had left behind. It stars Burt Lancaster, Susan Sarandon, Kate Reid, Michel Piccoli, Hollis McLaren and Moses Znaimer.The movie was released in 1980 in France and Germany, then in 1981 in the United States.The movie was written by John Guare, and directed by Louis Malle.It won a Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1980 in a tie with ''Gloria (film)Gloria'' (1980).It was nominated for Academy Awards for Academy Award for Best ActorBest Actor in a Leading Role (Burt Lancaster), Academy Award for Best ActressBest Actress in a Leading Role, Academy Award for DirectingBest Director, Academy Award for Best PictureBest Picture and Academy Award for Writing Original ScreenplayBest Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.In 2003 the United States Library of Congress deemed the film "culturally significant" and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.
